For our Amish neighbors and the terrible tragedy in their community today... especially for the girls that are in critical condition and being treated in hospitals right now.
No matter how many times you hear about it on television all over the world...you still feel that numb shock inside of you whenever you hear about someone disturbed enough to take the lives of innocent little children. It's impossible to digest, and I am deeply saddened by it.

i freaked when i first saw that headline....all i saw was PA and i hoped to god it wasn't the school that D goes to.
i'm glad that it wasn't D, but very much saddened for those that were involved in this horrible situation in any way, shape, or form. how awful.

It's funny you say that because I had no idea what was going on until my mother called me. Anytime she sees news in PA, no matter what part, she calls me to find out how close I am to it. This time she said, "Where's Nickel Mine, Pennsylvania?" I was like, "I have no idea!" All she heard was six-year old to 13-year olds being shot at a school in PA, and she pannicked! When I turned on the TV, I was stunned to see it was happening just right here in Lancaster, in a town close to where we were visiting just over a week ago to see Thomas the train in Strasburg!
Yes, thankfully David is safe, but it sure scares the crap out of me because here was a place where the people felt totally safe and secure in their own community, the rest of the violence in America a world away from them...and suddenly an outsider is turning their world upside down.
I'll wave good-bye to David again this morning as he smiles and the bus heads down the street...and all I can hope for is that tomorrow we can do it again. You just really never know what the day is going to bring.
Oh, and if you can...send healing thoughts for the shooter's family too... a wife and three kids are out of their house and trying to figure out what in the world happened to their husband that he would do this to them and to strangers.
Oh, how awful... I saw that on the news yesterday and wondered if that community was anywhere near you. I can't even comprehend how the families of the girls must feel. I hope that they, and the family of the shooter, are receiving the support that they need.
But that guy? The shooter? WTF. No freakin' sympathy.

on my drive this morning they were saying how 2 more of the girls had died during the night. i am so saddened...5 innocent lives lost in a matter of moments! and i read somewhere that one of the victim's parents feels no ill will toward the shooter and has forgiven him! i know the Amish are a peaceful people, but how can they forgive him? i don't get it.
i agree w/ Satrina, though, no freakin' sypmathy for the shooter. from what he had taken into the school, he had planned to be there a long time...
